Show-off 2023
8. September 2023Be Bold and Step Up! This slogan has accompanied the
English language presentation skills competition for 12
years, organised by the Centre for Language Education at
the Faculty of Humanities.
This year, the competition took place on 22 March
2023, with students from secondary schools and all
faculties of Tomáš Baťa University (UTB) competing for
top positions.
The jury, composed of leading university figures,
notable partners, and UTB students, evaluated not only
the content of the presentations but also their linguistic
and visual aspects. The topics were undoubtedly
engaging: Working in a Diverse Team, The Challenge of
My Life, Do We Speak the Same Language?
Generational Differences, and How to Deal with Failure.
The jury faced a tough decision, as the level of
competition in both categories was, as always, exceptionally high.
Notino, one of the event’s sponsors, offered an
additional opportunity: work shadowing, which allows
participants to spend a day working alongside an
experienced company manager. Notino representatives
selected not one but two UTB students, who were
delighted by the opportunity and are eagerly
anticipating their collaboration. A perfect blend of
theory and practice. “For the contestants, this is a
unique chance to make connections with companies that
could be potential future employers. And a certificate of
participation in such a university competition will
undoubtedly enhance their CVs,” concluded Jana
Semotamová.
The competition’s prestige increases every year, as
evidenced by the high number of participants and
students who came to watch and find inspiration. The
university greatly values its talented students,
demonstrated not only through attractive prizes but
also financial rewards in the form of scholarships.
In addition, winners in both categories received
vouchers for a prestigious P.A.R.K. Cambridge
language exam, valuable prizes from ExxonMobil,
treats from Nestlé, delicious coffee and tea from
Oxalis, and fragrant surprises from Notino for all
participants.
