Blind Spots in Non-Formal Education of Adults in the Czech Republic: Non-Participants and their Social Worlds

  • Mgr. Jan Kalenda, Ph.D.
  • 1. 1. 2019 – 31. 12. 2021
  • Reg. nr.: 19-00987S

Despite international accumulation of knowledge about the participants of non-formal education and barriers to their education, the issue of non-participation in the education of adults and cognitive and non-cognitive determinants of their participation has not yet been sufficiently addressed. In this regard, the project will aim to analyze cognitive and non-cognitive determinants for non-participation in the non-formal education of adults in the Czech Republic in social groups with the highest occurrence of educational barriers and with the lowest level of participation in it. For this purpose, a three-year basic research project is proposed, with a mixed methodological design combining the approaches of qualitative research based on grounded theory and quantitative methodology measuring the distribution of attributes on a selective sample of the Czech population. As a result, the findings of the qualitative research phase will be verified and generalized on the level of the Czech population. The findings will be related to the national framework of educational policy.

The Dynamics of Self-Regulation in Socially Excluded Pupils

  • Mgr. Karla Hrbáčková, Ph.D.
  • 1. 1. 2017 – 31. 12. 2021
  • Reg. nr.: 17-04816S

Social rejection and social exclusion of pupils may serve as an intensive psychosocial stressor. A certain form of social exclusion can be found in almost every class in the school environment. Yet, it is rather difficult to re-integrate the excluded individuals in social groups. Research shows that due to social rejection, which is accompanied by experiencing social pain, mechanisms supporting the individual´s effort of re-integration into the group are not triggered. Paradoxically the opposite tendency arises, i.e., an increase in selfish and self-defeating behaviour. The project is to determine the structure of self-regulatory mechanisms in children excluded from a class group, reveal how these mechanisms operate within the process of social rejection and identify latent factors weakening or strengthening self-regulation mechanisms in socially excluded pupils. Such knowledge enables us to understand the dynamic nature of self-regulation, and propose self-regulation development opportunities for socially excluded pupils.

German Literature and Culture in Moravian Wallachia: the European Dimension of the Regional Cultural Discourse

  • Mgr. Libor Marek, Ph.D.
  • 1. 1. 2016 – 31. 12. 2018
  • Reg. nr.: 16-11983S

The essence of the project is a research of German literature and culture in Moravian Wallachia of the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, while Wallachia is seen as a multicultural area including both the Czech and German cultural elements. The project is to reveal a scientifically neglected chapter of literary and cultural history. Its results will contribute not only to illumination of plurality of the cultural discourses in Moravian Wallachia, but will also help evaluate the unique contribution of the region to German literature and culture. The aim of the research is to produce an analysis of the primary material (literary texts and archival sources). The project aims to provide a critical reflection and to enable integration of this type of literature and culture in the Czech, German and European literary-historical or cultural-historical context. The findings will be presented in publications and editorial activities focused on the Czech and European research community through a monograph, critical edition of sources and analytical studies.

Labeling of intellectually gifted children at school environment

  • Mgr. Eva Klimecká, Ph.D.
  • 1. 4. 2020 – 31. 3. 2023
  • Reg. nr.: TL03000191

In addition to the opportunities afforded to them, the development of care for gifted children is also associated with the problematic handling of the “gifted” label. The negative associations affect the development of a child and affects several aspects of her / his environment. The aim of the project is to identify and analyze phenomena which foster the labeling of gifted children in the school setting, to propose and verify in practice a methodology eliminating labeling, to anchor the established theory and disseminate the results to working educators. The team consists of representatives of both basic and border educational and psychological disciplines. Outputs consists of 2 articles (Jsc), the organization of workshops (W) and conferences (M) and methodology for teachers (NmetC).

Preschool and Primary School Teachers’ Self-Efficacy in the Context of Resilience to Changes

  • prof. RNDr. Anna Tirpáková, Ph.D.
  • 1. 7. 2021 – 31. 12. 2022
  • Reg. nr.: FSR FORD 5-6 /2021-23/FHS/001

The project aims to find out how the personally perceived self-efficacy of kindergarten and primary school teachers correlates with their resilience. The project focuses on empirical research, which aims to determine the self-efficacy of kindergarten and primary school teachers and to analyze and compare the degree of resistance to change in these teachers. The research results have the potential to reveal little-known aspects of the resilience of kindergarten and primary school teachers and their personal perceived fitness. The project will be implemented in four key stages: the preparation of questionnaires, processing and analysis of the obtained data to their interpretation. Furthermore, the project results will bring publication outputs, which will be in the form of an article in a journal indexed in the Web of Science database. The project results can be used to modify the accreditation programs for teachers, direct strategic documents for the development of education in the Zlín region, and prepare the offer of lifelong learning courses.

Collective (dis)trust of students towards the school: analysis of regional inequalities of Czech schools

  • Mgr. Karla Hrbáčková, Ph.D.
  • 7. 2020 – 31. 12. 2021
  • Reg. nr.: FSR-S/2020/FHS/003

The project will contribute to the understanding of collective (dis)trust in the system of elementary education and will help to clarify an important source of differentiation of the shared system of trust in Czech schools. Its aim is to fill a gap in the understanding of how the external differentiation of schools is reflected in the collective trust of students in the school. The solution of the project will not only contribute to the understanding of these conditions in the class team, but will help to clarify the functioning of a shared belief of trust, which is applicable in the practice of a particular school or class.
