Senior Cup

This year’s 8th annual pétanque tournament, which is regularly organized by the Zlín Region in cooperation with the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Technology and Luhačovice Spa for the elderly, took place on 15 June 2022 in Luhačovice. A total of 144 seniors from all over the Zlín Region took part in the sports competition. The oldest participant of the tournament was an incredible eighty-eight years old. The member of the Senior Club Kvítková Zlín was in excellent shape and enjoyed the sporting event with gusto. The day, filled with sport and good cheer, was officially opened by Hana Ančincová, First Deputy Governor of the Zlín Region, alongside representatives of the coorganising institutions. The event was also attended by Radim Holiš, Governor of the Zlín Region, and Libor Marek, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at UTB. On this day, the otherwise refined and peaceful spa promenade was transformed into a bustling sports ground where a thrilling battle between 36 competing teams took place throughout the morning. To ensure the smooth running of the event, the Faculty of Humanities organised a 27-member team from the Institute of Health Sciences and the Department of Pedagogical Sciences. The students managed registration, prepared refreshments, guided parking, and even served as referees. As Libor Marek commented: “The tournament is a fantastic opportunity for students. It allows them to test their organisational skills, gain valuable experience, and learn to communicate with seniors, which will undoubtedly benefit them in both their personal and professional lives.” We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the students from the Institute of Health Sciences and the Institute of Pedagogical Sciences who dedicated their time and helped make this challenging event a success.
