Junior university® (12.-16. 7. 2021)
19. October 2022In 2021, the young students at Junior University® returned for the ninth time to the FHS campus. The Institute of School Pedagogy once again prepared a rich and engaging programme for children aged 3.5 to 16, which continues to grow in popularity each year.
The ninth edition offered, for example, English through play, adventurous reading, chemistry experiments in the laboratory, insight into the work of criminologists or a secret project that resulted in a birthday card for the Dean, as well as trips to the Lešná Zoo and Kovo Zoo, roasting of marshmallows and much more. The week-long marathon of fun and educational activities ended with the graduation ceremony of 47 graduates, which is traditionally an experience not only for the little university students, but also for their parents, grandparents and friends – this time in brand new gowns and under strict hygiene measures.
Also this year, the students of the Zlín Junior University chose a distinguished personality and awarded her the title of Doctor Junior honoris Causa. This honorary doctorate was awarded this year to Professor Peter Gavora, who has been working at the Institute of School Pedagogy for a long time.
During the graduation ceremony, the staff and students at the Institute were also thanked for their hard work and preparation. In front of the audience, Dr. Hana Navrátilová, an educator, and Milan Smola, head of the Department of Education at the Municipality of Zlín, were also recognized for their support and cooperation with schools during the pandemic. A special thanks was also given to Dr. Petr Snopek for Covid-19 testing of the children, the Centre for Language Education for English through play sessions, Lesy ČR, and the Faculty of Applied Informatics, which introduced students to the world of robotics. Particular appreciation was expressed to the students of ÚŠP, who diligently helped tutor pupils and supported their education during the pandemic crisis.
