Students help with tutoring
19. June 2021Students across all disciplines at the Faculty of Humanities are a significant help in the fight against covid-19. They work in a variety of organisations that welcome their help. Students in the Department of Health Sciences are an invaluable help, especially in hospitals and other health care facilities. Representatives of the Institute of Educational Sciences are involved in volunteer activities for the elderly and other needy groups or help in children’s care homes. The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures was primarily involved in the activities of the UTB Crisis Call Centre. The students at the Institute of School Pedagogy have been an important support in families and schools during the pandemic. An example is the students of Teaching for the First Grade of Primary School, who provided free tutoring assistance to children in grades 1 to 5 during distance learning. After discussing with the school, teacher or parent and their exact needs, the institute selected and prepared the most suitable student who then approached the pupil directly. Adéla Langerová was one of these students, who during this period helped to teach eleven-year-old Trang from Vietnam. Little Trang has been living in the Czech Republic for only a short time, and upon arrival, she could only manage the alphabet, naming colours in Czech, and counting to ten. Thanks to their joint efforts, the student gradually improved in Czech language and mathematics, to which Adéla contributed significantly. There was enormous interest in free tutoring assistance, not only from primary schools but also from the parents themselves.
