Charity Events
9. February 2021At the end of the winter semester, the Faculty of Humanities (FHS) participated in two charitable activities – Christmas Rose (Christmas Star Against Leukaemia) and Christmas Collection (Silent Face project).
The Christmas Rose Against Leukaemia collection was once again organised in December by the Institute of Health Sciences. Faculty and university staff had the opportunity to support children undergoing treatment at the Haematology-Oncology Clinic of the University Hospital in Olomouc by purchasing a Christmas rose. Not only did they help the children, but they also brought a festive atmosphere into their homes. “We are thrilled by the enormous interest from university staff. All departments got involved, including colleagues from Uherské Hradiště, and we appreciate every single one of them,” said Dr Krátká, one of the organisers of the collection at FHS. Thanks to the high level of participation, the event raised 34,300 CZK.
For the first time, FHS also participated in the Silent Face charity project, which aims to support the Zlín Animal Shelter in Vršava. Staff were invited to place donations under the FHS Christmas tree in the foyer of the faculty building – including pet food, treats, toys, towels, blankets, and other essentials for the shelter’s four-legged residents. Despite the limited number of people present in the building, an impressive amount of gifts was collected, exceeding both our expectations and those of the event’s organiser, the Faculty of Multimedia Communications (FMK).
These two charitable activities were further complemented by students from the Social Pedagogy programme, who participated in the White Pastel public collection in 2020.
Despite the rainy weather, they managed to raise 17,038 CZK in the streets – a notable contribution to the total amount of 51,856 CZK collected for the Zlín branch of the Czech Blind and Visually Impaired United Organisation (SONS). The head of the Zlín branch of SONS praised the cooperation with students from the Institute of Educational Sciences (ÚPV) and has already confirmed that the institute plans to participate in the event again in 2021.
