Collection for Those in Need in Ukraine

Ivo Mazal, a 1st year student of the General Nursing Combined Degree Programme, organised a much needed collection of ostomy aids for Ukraine.

“My mother has had an ostomy for several years, is a member of the ostomy club, and volunteers for Ilco. Ilco is an organisation that supports people with ostomies, defends their rights, and educates both ostomates and the general public. The organisation also extends a helping hand to Ukrainian ostomates by providing supplies and connecting them with specialised nurses when necessary. The issue of ostomies is something that is not talked about in society and thus many people do not realize how important aids for ostomates are.

By having an ostomy, my mother was able to reach many friends through social networks. Within a short period of time, over 60 people got involved and wanted to help Ukraine in some way. The whole process of collecting, packing, checking, writing up and then transporting the collection to its destination took less than 3 weeks,” says student Ivo Mazal and his mother Martina Macháčová, describing their activity.
