Participation of Research Centre at the CIES 2025 conference and networking at UCLA, UCSD and PLNU
15. April 2025At the beginning of 2025, Assoc. Prof. Jan Kalenda and Dr. Jitka Vaculíková attended the 69th annual prestigious international conference of the Comparative and International Education Societies (CIES), entitled “Envisioning Education in a Digital Society” in Chicago, IL.
The conference was attended by more than 3,000 participants from all over the world. The conference included a presentation of the joint paper “Digitalisation of Adult Learning Systems Across Europe”, which was included in the group of important presentations by the organizers. Then, there was a presentation of the paper “From Modern to Late-Modern Configuration: Evolution of Adult Learning Systems” and participation in the presentation of the book Research Handbook on Adult Education Policy, to which Research Centre contributed one of the chapters.
In addition to these activities, networking took place with colleagues from the nation’s No. 1 public university for the 8th year in a row, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and one of the top public universities in San Diego, University of California, San Diego (UCSD). A joint meeting was also held with representatives of one of the eight U.S. liberal arts colleges and universities affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene, Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU).
During the meetings, it was agreed not only to involve Research Centre in the project “MAPS – Mapping Adult Pathways & Skills”, but also to participate in the latest OECD initiative focused on innovations in measuring adult education systems. Cooperation between UCLA and Research Centre will continue with the visit of Prof. Richard Desjardins at the Research Centre. As part of the activities at UCSD, research portfolio and the activities of the UC San Diego Center for Research on Education, Assessment and Teaching Excellence (CREATE) were presented. Research Centre also received an invitation to give lectures at PLNU and agreed on publication cooperation.
