Election of the Dean of FHS

On 18 January 2023, the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Humanities (FHS) elected the dean for the upcoming term.

Two candidates were nominated: the current dean, Mgr. Libor Marek, Ph.D., and the Vice-Rector for Educational Activities and Internationalisation, Ing. Lubomír Beníček, Ph.D. Both candidates presented themselves and their visions on 11 January during a meeting of the academic community at FHS UTB.
Mgr. Libor Marek, Ph.D., successfully defended his position. The Faculty of Humanities remains under the leadership of the current dean, who thus smoothly builds on his previous work.
In his vision of his candidacy for the appointment of the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Marek outlined the goals and objectives he would like to realize in the coming period:
“I offer continuity in terms of faculty leadership and management style, a non-directive management style, minimization of bureaucracy (while respecting standards and regulations), respect for the autonomy of institutes and centres, development and interconnection of all areas of education and professional interest at FHS (non-teaching pedagogy, teaching, medical disciplines, philology), experience and valuable contacts gained during four years in office, continuation of cooperation (e.g. The experience and valuable experience gained during the four-year term of office, including the experience with the Zlín Region, the Rector’s Office, UTB faculties and other departments), cooperation with every employee on the basis of respect, mutual trust and substantive arguments, cooperation with the faculty bodies (Academic Senate of the Faculty of Humanities, Scientific Council of the Faculty of Humanities) and active involvement in the university.”
Dr. Marek has been with the university since 2006, having previously worked at the Faculty of Arts, Palacký University in Olomouc, where he completed master’s degrees in English Philology and German Philology, followed by a doctoral degree in German Literature.
Upon joining UTB, he began as an assistant at the Institute of Languages and, since 2013, has served as an assistant professor at the Institute of Modern Languages and Literatures. He became the guarantor of the study programme German Language for Managerial Practice, within which he currently guarantees and teaches courses related to literature, history, and academic writing. His professional focus includes the history of German literature, issues of literary modernism, and German literature and culture in Bohemia and Moravia. In 2010–2011, Dr. Marek served in the Academic Senate of FHS as a member and Chair of the Economic Commission, while also being part of the Academic Senate of UTB.
In 2011, he was appointed Vice-Dean for Educational Activities at FHS, where he chaired the Faculty Council for Study Programmes, as well as the disciplinary and scholarship committees.
From 2014–2015, he served as Vice-Dean for Educational Activities, with additional responsibility for external relations and faculty internationalisation. In 2018–2019, he held the position of Director of the Institute of Modern Languages and Literatures at FHS, and since 2021, he has been Director of the Centre for Educational Support at FHS. Dr. Marek first assumed the role of Dean in April 2019, and with his re-election, he continues to build on his work and achievements in leading the Faculty of Humanities.
